cancer, or not, because they are made from different strains. The same is true of the vaeaine made at the Pasteur Institute in Paris. So there are so many problems, knowing which vaccine will be effective, what dosages should be given, and what types of tumors.

Q:

So you would say that our failure, our medical people failed in a more widespread use of BCG for tuberculosis in this country, and consequently we're suffering now --

Lasker:

Yes. Yes, that's true. If we had used BCG for TB, we Would know much more about it.

Q:

Mrs. Fordyce probably would have a lot to say about that,

Lasker:

She has.

Q:

When did you go to see Dr. Mahler?

Lasker:

We went in August to Ceneva, from the south of France.

The idea, he gave BCG for mouth for cancer, has not been widely used in this country, and Dr. Falk and Dr. Thomas of Vancouver seem to be the only people, the pioneers in the giving of it by mouth for cancers of the inside of the body, internalcancers.

Q:

As a side effect, it's being used in this area -- will our medical people be more interested in using it for tuberculosis now?

Laker:

I wonder. I don't know at all. Of course, tuberculosis is gradually still on the decline -- 5000 deaths a year, which comparatively speaking is nothing, but not a single person should die
