like the death rate in the state of California, which is 8.5 or which has been as low as 8.5 or the state of Utah, which is 6.5. Can you imagine?

Q:

Healthy people.

Lasker:

Healthy people who don't drink or smoke. Many of them don't.

Then car accidents were 10,000 less than the year before. So between the decline in stroke and high blood pressure and in some forms of heart disease there was a decline in deaths, it was the lowest year. Cancer deaths increased a little; these are rates per thousand, not numbers.

Well, because I've been interested in arthritis and had to do with the passage of the arthritis and Metabolic Diseases Institute, national institute, and because I'm a friend of Rosalind Russell, I helped the Arthritis Foundation to get Miss Russell to present an award or citation to Congressman Flood for his “efforts on the part of arthritis sufferers.” It was held in the Capitol. I cannot tell you yet whether this has paid off in money or appropriations, but Mr. Flood enjoyed the occasion very much. As an ex-actor he adored Miss Rosalind Russell.
