Lasker:

Yes. But I think she really would have had to be there the day the bill came up to get additional money. It's really something.

Q:

What is her interest in arthritis?

Lasker:

She is severely crippled in her hands by arthritis, severely -- and is on cortisone.

I think I mentioned that September 30th, the day of Mrs. Ford's breast cancer operation, was the day of the meeting of the breast cancer task force in Washington. There was a report to the profession which was supposed to get in all the newspapers. Mrs. Ford's operation completely blankeded the advances I've told you about.

Q:

Why didn't they hold it up then?

Lasker:

They didn't really know about Mrs. Ford's operation until they saw the papers. It was just one of those strange cancatenations of things.

Then I had interested Mrs. in sponsoring a national conference for advances in cancer management and also treatment and rehabilitation at the Waldorf on November 5th through the 7th and gave a reception for her and the participants.
