effort, as he was behind everything -- American legislation and appropriation, the efforts of individual countries and the efforts of the UN. He traveled from Japan to Pussia and from Washington to Roumania and never made anything of it.

Q:

Was this a heart business on his part? Did he die of a heart attack?

Lasker:

Yes, died of a heart attack suddenly. And I was really very much in despair about this. Fortunately, Mrs. Agier Biddle Duke had joined his committee and is taking up his work, and she's very energetic and I think is going to be very successful.

Q:

How old a woman is she?

Lasker:

Oh, she's about 50, I think. In trying to raise funds both for maintaining the organization in the United States and giving money to the international family planning effort. She got $660,000 from a Japanese businessman who admired General Draper shortly after his death. Isn't that amazing?

Q:

As a kind of memorial gift.

Lasker:

Yes.
