Lasker:

Yes, well, there is also a study by Martell at Mayo's and by a group at M. D. Anderson which show that cancer of the colon can be prevented from recurrence with drugs plus immunotherapy plus BCG quite effectively. But I will send you the charts on this. There's also a chart on cancer of the lung. But you'll need the details on the chart. It will be interesting in the future to see what the state of the art was in 1976 and what the state of the art will be in five years or even two years.

Q:

You're talking about the very inception of this new method of treatment.

Lasker:

Yes. It's more easily understood by looking at that chart.

Q:

You told me last year that a Dr. Gallo at NIH thought that he had found a human leukemia virus but you'd have to wait six months to find out.

Lasker:

Well, the truth is that it now is thought to have been a contamination with a wooly monkey virus. It is not thought to have been a human virus. Nobody is yet able to say that they have a human cancer virus, although people suspect: the viroideology
