Q:

Is he in the Veterans Administration?

Lasker:

No, Dr. Yallo is a woman. She's the first woman to have won an Albert Lasker Basic Research Award. Berson died unfortunately before he received the award.

The other awards are going to two men, one for the concept of be Alpha and Beta blockers in heart disease and the concept of a drug to deal with these blockers. The other half of the award is being given to Dr. Brown, who devised a specific drug called that is a big advance in the treatment of angina pectoris, the agonizing pain that comes from a blocked artery. It also is a drug that is being used for high blood pressure in sose cases, but it's considered the biggest pharmacological advance in heart disease, a milestone in heart disease treatment. Ednorel is now being widely used. There are other similar agents used, but this is the one that is sold here by Ayerst.

Q:

That's quite a collection of awards.

Lasker:

Yes, it's wonderful.

Q:

How did you determine these people? I mean how did you determine the areas?
