Q:

Are they the double ones?

Lasker:

No, they're the singles. They're like the ones in Kenwood and the ones in the Tidal Basin. Mrs. Vincent Astor is going to give a marvelous playground to one of our worst schools in Washington, similar to the Jacob Riis housing planting that she did here. It's not only a planting but it's original ways of providing entertainment for children and sitting space for older people.

Q:

I see. Which school is involved?

Lasker:

Buchanan School. Do you know it?

We raised some money and have planted Rhode Island Avenue with double-flowering cherries for its entire length.

Q:

The entire length of Rhode. Island Avenue?

Lasker:

Yes. Scott Circle has been planted with flowering cherries in memory of Mrs. Florence Pritchard Smith, Mrs. Earle Smith. As a result of a luncheon given in December of '65, -- for General Duke and for the Highway Commission as of Maryland and of Virginia, who sent deputies, and for Mr. Tarine, the Commissioner -- of the Commissioners of the District of Columbia -- aroused the District to plant the Southwest Freeway,
