quite comperatively easy, because she's fun to work with, and there is nothing like the presumed wish of the White House to move some of federal officials to do something.

Q:

You imply that the people of the city of Washington --

Lasker:

-- the people of the city of Washington are really absolutely charming about it. Even aredcap knows me by name because there's been so much about beautification in the city. I can't see any other reason why he would recognize me.

Q:

This is somewhat in contrast with New York City, isn't it?

Lasker:

Well, New York City is much more difficult, because we never did have a good Park Commissioner who was really, truly interested in beautification. Moses was interested in building roads, which were very important. Newbold Morris was interested really in asphalt playgrounds, and not in trees or gardens at all. Now we have a change to Mr. Hoving, and the city is broke, and I don't know what we're going to have.

Q:

Is he interested trees?

Lasker:

Well, in theory, but what he's actually going to get in the way of appropriations in the city budget, I don't know. So -- thank you very much for coming.
