and this appropriation by the Senate was dropped in the conference. The only things that survived that we advocated were about a million dollars for community trials for the for hypertensives, as advocated by Dr. Joseph Wilbur, and additional -- a million dollars for additional coronary care centers in smaller hospitals, and $500,000 for immunotherapy of various diseases, especially corner, as testified to by Dr. Edwin Klein b fore the Senate Committee.
Now, when the House and Senate, which met ten times to resolve the conference disagreements, finally came out with their final report, all of these items were put under regional medical programs. Now, this was very disturbing to the Center for Chronic Diseases which thought that they were going to have administration of the problem. The million dollars for arthritis centers has just gotten lost. It's part of the savings that were imposed after the bill was passed, as part of, a 10 percent saving of the budget for the Vietnamese War. We have never known such pressure or trouble about anything as we've had in this year, for appropriations for health. The amounts of money were very meagre, and the opposition and stupidity on the House side is beyond anything
