For Regional Medical Programs, we were trying for 100 million dollars, and for Mental Health Administration, which is no longer part of the National Institutes of Health, $535 million. The total requested for these particular Institutes and programs was over $.8 billion.
It's very near the '69 then.
No. It's substantially more than what we got in '69. The '69 appropriation was a total of $1.4 billion as you will see on the attached breakdown of appropriations to the various National Institutes of Health.

The hearings in the House went along family routinely. In the hope that we might be able to interest the Congressmen before they marked up the bill, the Blairs and I gave a dinner for former Vice President Humphrey on June 11, 1969, and invited Congressman Mahon, Congressman Flood, Congressman Casey, Congressman Hull, Congressman Neil Smith and their wives and various other people to Mr. and Mrs. William Blair's pretty house for dinner in honor of the former Vice President.
