“to get something ready for a Senate resolution right away.”

Well, the pressure in the Congress was so great that there is no Senate resolution yet. Now, it looks as if the Executive Office is tuning themselves up to appoint a commission and I am really worried about which is the best way for this thing to go. I really don't know. Probably it would be better to have Yarborough do it, but Yarborough will not get back until maybe after the 19th of January, and it's going to be very difficult.

Q:

On the other hand, if your premise is a correct one as it seems to me it might be, the President appointing a commission then has some obligation to listen to their recommendations and implement them.

Lasker:

Yes, but sometimes, unless you have staff that's sympathetic, and I don't know whether I've told you or not, but the President has six members of his staff who are Christian Scientists and they are consequently totally opposed to medicine and research in medicine --

Q:

-- no, I didn't know that.

Lasker:

These are the hazards we face.

Q:

Well, I'm putting my money on you.

Lasker:

Well, I don't know what will happen.
