AND DOLLARS? which we got some very good letters from Senator Magnusson on, which I always consider it's worthwhile if you get a good letter from Senator Magnusson to publish the whole thing.

Q:

I have a few questions I want to ask. Since there has been a change in the leadership of HEW, I wanted to ask you about Elliot Richardson and his interest in medical research.

Lasker:

Oh, yes. Well, I don't think he has any particular interest in medical research. He seems, according to Mike Gorman, interested in mental health problems, and he was in the state of Massachusotts, and Mike feels rather friendly toward him. I think he's rather cold, but I think he's energetic and probably knows how to manage the Department along Republican lines.

Q:

He has a reputation as a really good administrator.

Lasker:

I'm sure he is.

Q:

It seems to me it takes that in such a sprawling department.

Lasker:

Yes -- oh, it's very very complex. I think it should be broken into Health, Education and Welfare, all separate.
