I keep referring to Miss Jay during these interviews because she's my memory on a lot of things. I check with bar now all the time. She could fill in all the names that I don't remember. She has made it her business all these years to follow every detail of my life both public and private. She knows where I stored my furniture and all that kind of thing. I called her up a little while ago and told her I was drawing a blank in the interviews on my work in the Industrial Board. She forgave me because it was twenty years ago, but she said, “Mercy, Miss Perkins, don't you remember that from the very beginning we found everything in a very rundown condition. Why, for two years the Republicans had been in. They had certainly put lots of crimps in what had been started previously.”
