Johnny O'Hanlon was much influenced by that and he was one of our best stand-bys in the meetings that we had in the State of New York. He would help on this legislation, but he never, of course, would go beyond his instructions.

We had a hard time getting an endorsement of some of our labor legislation through the AF of L. We played our cards carefully and we finally got involved in the Industrial Commission Edward W. Edwards, who was a printer or a pressman. He was a good, strong AF of L man. He stood very well in the AF of L and he stood very, very well in his union. He had been an active union worker. He was a very intelligent man.

Richard H. Curran was a member of the State Industrial Board through most of the years that I was. He had diabetes. His trade was one of the more flossy building trades. He was a Republican and was totally uninterested in what we were doing - completely uninterested in the whole operation of the Labor Department, in the Labor Law, in the Workmen's Compensation Law. He could hear a case in workmen's compensation, but he couldn't decide it, because he wasn't interested enough in the Workmen's Compensation Law to follow it through and see where the law could help this particular man, or how it applied to this case.
