for many years. He was a tall, blond musician of Polish extraction and of the Roman Catholic faith, which was tha only reason that the Perkins's generally had thought it too bad that Helena wished to marry him. Helena Perkins was related to me only through the fourth or fifth degree. I saw her once or twice in a lifetime. We don't “cousin,” but if you had to prove it you could say we had a common ancestor, as we did.
However, that being told to a person who didn't know Adamowski from Wijinsky, Watsky, or something else, would jump to the conclusion that the whole family was Jewish. Nobody ever said that to me. Nobody pointed it out. But I jumped to that conclusion when someone who I will not name, but who ought to have known better, said in may presence,“Of course, it's ridiculous, but you know some of your relatives did marry into the Jewish faith, didn't they, Frances?“
I said, “No, now you know it as well as I do. You've got relatives in Boston and I know who you're thinking of. You're thinking of Timothy Adamowski, aren't you?”
She roared with laughter. She's a bad gossip person. Sha said, “That's right, of course I know.” She had no doubts about it, but there was gossip about it.
