However, I really don't know anything about the purge, getting back to that, and can't throw any light on it at all. Roosevelt never talked about it afterwards when he was licked on it. They all got elected except one. After an election he usually liked to sum up with the Cabinet what had happened, who did this and who did that. He never mentioned that, however, That always made me feel that there wasn't anybody in the Cabinet circle who was in his confidence on it. I never thought much about it because I certainly wasn't in his confidence. My advice wouldn't have been asked anyhow, except that I might have had the opportunity to volunteer it if I had had any knowledge of what was going on. But I certainly didn't.
