I think he was a sensitively organized person. I think that he felt things that the average man in the street wouldn't feel. He felt a kind of physical cringing when he saw poverty. He didn't go by and say, “Too bad they're poor.” It was the same thing when you saw him at his pleasures. If he was having a pleasant time, he was having a super-pleasant time. He was likely to be a little on the extremes. That was because he was sensitive. He could feel in a pleasurable situation more than was really in it. In a situation where people were sitting around drinking highballs he saw in that acts of friendship and ideals of friendship which weren't there really. It's a friendly thing perhaps, but not what he thought. He felt more in it than was really in it. If people indicated a concern about poverty, he felt that they were as distressed by poverty as he was. Whereas, most people are quite objective about poverty unless they're suffering it themselves. I think Harry was always being disappointed that the situation wasn't as total as he felt within himself it was with relations to people. He longed for friendships that would be total. He longed for human relationships that would be total and complete, continous and good.
