I said, “Why he didn't call you a dirty name. What do you mean?”

“He called me an economic royalist.”

I said, “He didn't. You're not an economic royalist. You don't have any control over any money. A royalist is one who controls something. You don't control a thing. You're merely rich.”

“He called all rich people economic royalists.”

“He did not call them economic royalists.” But that was the way they took it - if you're rich, you're wrong. I once said to her, “Florence, I can't bear it from you because you're intelligent. I've been thinking that the people who were so upset about it felt guilty about being rich.”

“I don't feel guilty about being rich, you know I don't, Frances. Tom made his money honestly. You know that. I was a school teacher before. I don't feel guilty about it, and neither does Tom.”

I said, “You don't need to. You're not guilty.”

But that feeling of guilt did go through some people apparently and they took it the wrong way. Well, that was the only thing we had trouble with. The rich people don't necessarily control the economic life of
