I don't remember much about Mr. Truman's attitude, but I did recognize that he liked Henry. I don't know of anything he said to me about it, because I didn't see him too often. Then the rest of us all got through, between the first of April and the first of July, somewhere in there, and the day after the first of July there was a kind of a general swearing in. Hannegan was appointed and sworn in that day as Postmaster General. Tom Clark was appointed and sworn in as Department of Justice, Attorney-General. Clayton Anderson went to Agriculture. I'm not sure that he was sworn in that day. Lewis B. Schwellenbach went into Labor, and was sworn in that day.

But what I remember are the elaborate, fantastic ceremonies with which it was done. That was new.

About Wallace I don't remember, because he had been sworn in and didn't have to be sworn in then. So far as I could see, he went along smoothly. Then I went away, after the first of July, went down to Maine and I completely divorced myself from any attention to what was going on here, except that I had had a talk with the President and he still wanted me to go Geneva to the I.L.O. that summer--that autumn. I went over to that, and that is what I was principally concerned about.
