I indicated to him that I had the Departmental car and that I wanted to take them to their hotel and learn what their desires and plans were, and put the car at their disposal. So we fode out to the hotel. I think it was the Wardman Park, I don't remember exactly. We rode out, Mr. Schwellenbach and I, Mrs. Schwellenbach and the little dog. I didn't know about the little dog, but the little dog was present, and I noticed Mr. Schwellenbach was very fond of him. He told me he was. He was his pet and so forth, he thought the world of him. We talked about the little dog, and I talked about the state of the Government. Then I said that I gathered he would be sworn in on the first day of July.

Now, there was something about it. The first of July was Sunday, wasn't it? No, I guess it was Saturday. This was probably Thursday. At any rate, I said to Mr. Schwellenbach that I had arranged to put this car at his disposal--you know, completely and entirely, and that the chauffeur would take orders from him and would telephone him in the morning, and would he use it completely?

He didn't even ask me if I had any provision for transportation, but of course I did. I had the little car and I had staked that out for myself for the next two days.
