Past Seasons
The Columbia Women's Volleyball Club became an official club sport in Fall 2006. We participate in the Northeast Women's Volleyball Club League in Division 2. In past seasons, we have traveled to tournaments at Cornell, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Delaware.
This Season
We practice twice a week, Mondays and Thursdays, from 9:00pm to 11:00pm in Levien Gymnasium in the Dodge Fitness Center. We hold tryouts for our traveling team at the beginning of the fall semester. We also hold open gyms for club members not on the travel team intermittently from 11pm to 11:45pm.
2024-2025 Columbia Women’s Club Volleyball Constitution
The mission of Columbia Women’s Club Volleyball is to allow all students to play volleyball both for enjoyment and at a competitive level. We hold practice every Monday and Thursday and expect all club members to attend. We hold tryouts at the beginning of each semester for the travel team which aims to attend two to four tournaments a semester within a four-hour-drive radius.
Membership
All club members must have a Dodge Fitness Center membership and be registered online via the Club Sports website. By registering for the club all members agree to sign a liability waiver. All members old and new are given two weeks following tryouts to pay for membership dues or apply for the FLI Student Fund. Members are permitted four unexcused absences from practices per semester. Failure to pay membership within the given timeframe OR attend practice puts members at risk of forfeiting their spot on the team. If a player is deemed to be engaging in hazardous behavior and/or is uncooperative with team members the executive board reserves the right to vote them out of the team for the season. Barring any emergencies players must notify board members of an (excused) absence at least 12 hours before the beginning of practice. See below for information on refunds.
Dues
All travel team members must pay dues: $50 per semester for undergraduate students and $65.50 per semester for graduate students and non-students. This money will go towards tournament travel fees, league fees, equipment costs, etc. If a team member joins the club but cannot attend any tournaments or decides she no longer wants to be a member of the club before the middle of the semester, she is eligible for a full refund. If a team member forfeits her spot on a tournament roster or fails to show up after having indicated availability, she will not be granted a refund.
Officers
The club will have an executive board consisting of a president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, and safety officers. All officers are required to attend a training session at the beginning of the fall semester run by Brian Jines. Officers will also work with their replacements at the end of the year to ensure a smooth transition and all documents should be “owned” by the CUWomen’sClubVolleyball Google Drive for historical purposes.
Duties
- President: Handles all communication with Club Sports Office, organizes tryouts and practices, and ensures gym space is booked each semester.
- Vice President: Helps run tryouts and practices, organizes tournament logistics.
- Treasurer: Manages club fees, accounts, and reimbursement processes.
- Secretary: Manages communications with members and organizes rosters.
- Safety Officer: Ensures the health and safety of all members, submits incident reports.
Policies
All members are expected to follow general club rules, including only using club volleyball equipment. Players may cancel their tournament availability within 24 hours of the board sending out the tournament roster, excluding personal illness or emergency. Failure to comply may result in forfeiting tournament eligibility for the rest of the academic year.
The travel team may only use Columbia vans or Columbia-approved transportation, and drivers must meet specific requirements, including age and licensing.
