IPOMEDON, YPOMEDOUN. Hippomedon was one of the Seven Chieftains who accompanied Adrastus to the war against Thebes. His death by drowning is told in Thebaid IX.522-539 (Roman de Thèbes 8601-9074).

The poet lists the names of the seven warriors who fought against Thebes, Anel 58. In her summary of the story, Cassandra describes Ypomedoun's death, Tr V.1502-1503. [Adrastus: Amphiorax: Campaneus: Ethiocles: Hemonydes: Parthonope: Polymyte: Tydeus]

Ipomedon, a variant of Boccaccio's Ippomedone, Tes II.11.2, occurs once medially, Anel 58; Ypomedoun, a variant of OF Ypomedon, also occurs once medially, Tr V.1502. Latin initial h was not pronounced.
