MONESTEO. Mnestheus was one of Aeneas's crew (Aeneid IV.288, V.114-123). Boccaccio says that he was one of the Trojans taken prisoner when the Greeks captured Antenor (Il Filostrato IV.3).

In spite of Monestheo's valiant effort, Antenor is taken prisoner, Tr IV.50-56. [Antenor: Phebuseo: Polite: Polydamas: Polymestore: Rupheo: Santippe: Sarpedon]

The form, a variant of Boccaccio's Menesteo, with stress on the penultimate syllable, appears in final rhyming position, Tr IV.51.
