The ceiling of Taian is
a mere 1.81 meters in height. It is composed of three parts. There are
two, large and small, horizontal rectangular planes. They are connected
to a sloping roof. Thin bamboo poles gird the roof. Between the high and
low points of the roof there is a plaque engraved with the two Japanese
characters for "Taian." The highest point of the ceiling is placed above
the guest, signifying his importance.
