This educational conference is designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to remain current in the field, and to fill gaps in knowledge and understanding among researchers, IRB members, and research administrators.

The day will offer the opportunity for participants from different disciplines to come together to explore the theoretical underpinnings and practical issues relative to effective ethical research practice.

Our distinguished faculty will provide lectures, panel discussions, and in-depth workshops allowing for a comprehensive exploration of ideas, critical issues, and current regulations.

The day will be composed of two sessions. The morning session will focus on Research Privacy and Confidentiality which includes a keynote address from Nancy Dubler, LLB, a national leader in the field, panel presentations, and workshops covering the latest regulations and current practices. The afternoon session will focus on Conflicts of Interest which includes a keynote address from Thomas Murray, PhD, nationally recognized in the field, panel presentations, and workshops covering the latest practices and policies.

Morning workshops will examine the latest critical aspects of privacy in research, such as the applications of HIPAA to your work place, third party consent, genetic privacy, certificates of confidentiality, computer research and industrial computer privacy, vulnerable populations, data base and computer registries, and sponsors and marketing.

Afternoon workshops will explore new avenues related to conflicts of interest in research from all levels. Issues covered will include: conflicts of interest involving the individual researcher, private practice physician, IRB member, institution, as well as those generated by industrial sponsors and marketing.

We hope you will come to Columbia University's Health Sciences Campus and enliven yourself with new ideas to guide your research practices with more precision, forethought, and decisiveness in what is a truly challenging research environment!
