Medical Knowledge

Rating  
1 Has an outstanding basic science knowledge base. Clinical issues are almost always linked to basic science principles in a relevant manner. Understands difficult concepts. Utilizes both basic textbook knowledge and the current literature. Shows a deep understanding of his/her pateints and other patients on the exam.
2 Does the above much of the time.
3 Does the above some of the time.
4 Does the above occasionally.
5 Rarely reaches the above level.

 

Clinical Skills

Rating  
1 Histories and physical examinations pick up on all the nuances of patients' problems. Communicates (write-ups and presentations) using pertinent positives and negatives and in a coherent and prioritized way. Almost always synthesizes findings into a prioritized problem list that includes an extensive and relevant differential diagnosis. Is almost always able to synthesize knowledge and clinical findings into making management suggestions on own. Almost always know both what to do and why it is being done.
2 Reaches the above level much of the time.
3 Reaches the above level some of the time.
4 Occasionally reaches above level occasionally.
5 Rarely reaches the above level.

 

Interpersonal Skills

Rating  
1 Shows dedication to each of his/her patients. Almost always builds therapeutic relationships with both patients and families. Goes out of way to find out the nuances about what the patients and their family are going through. Able to soothe frightened and stressed patients even when the stress is directed onto the student. Takes the iniative to care for patients in all aspects. Works well within a team concept (with hosestaff attendings and nurses). Eager to help whenever patient care is involved (not just when it benefits him/herself). Shares knowledge with team in a collegial fashion (informing and challenging not arrogant or showy). Generous to fellow students (acknowledges or credits their work, input).
2 Reaches the above level much of the time.
3 Reaches the above level some of the time.
4 Occasionally reaches above level occasionally.
5 Rarely reaches the above level.
