About MyselfI am Karthik Jayaraman Tripurari (known to many as TJ), a PhD student of Electrical Engineering Department in Columbia University, NYC. I am a member of CISL and work with Prof. Peter Kinget in the field of RF IC design. My PhD thesis is "RF Circuits and Architecture for Spectrum Scanning in Cognitive Radio."Before this, I did my Bachelors and Masters at IIT Madras, both in Electrical Engineering where I worked with Prof. Nagendra Krishnapura during my Masters in the field of "High speed serial link design". Research InterestsIntegrated Circuit Design with primary focus on Analog/ RF circuits. In particular, I am interested in circuit techniques and architecture for RF transceivers applied to Software Defined Radio and Cognitive Radio. Harmonic rejection mixers, N-Path filters, interferer cancellation schemes, etc are some of them. I want to build a flexible programmable RF Frontend which will enable rapid prototyping and experiments on wireless transceivers, just like an FPGA enabled prototyping of digital algorithms. Feature size of the transistors in CMOS technology is scaled down to enhance the fT of the transistors. The supply voltage is also scaled down simultaneously to ensure reliable operation of the transistors. Although digital circuits clearly benifit from such a scaling, the dynamic range-power trade-off is not obvious for analog mixed signal circuits. Understanding this scaling effect is one of my interests.
RunningAfter coming to the US in Fall 2008, I started volunteering for ASHA and started training for half-marathons with them. I have participated in NYC half marathon and Philadelphia half marathon competitions in 2009. After a gap of two years, I resumed my training in 2011 and competed in Philadelphia half marathon again. My aim is to complete half marathon within 2 hours and complete full marathons in 4.5 hours. TravelI find great fun in exploring new cities, cultures, life-styles and FOOD!!; thanks to my parents who used to take us frequently on vacations. In particular, Railways and the rickety buses in India fascinate me. In my opinion, traveling by unreserved class in Indian trains is the best way to experience the life of a Common Indian. This has notes on a memorable trip that Manideep and I took in our final semester at IIT Madras. In the US, I have visited big cities like NYC (I live here), Washington DC, Philadelphia, Boston, Pittsburg, Austin, San Francisco and San Diego. PhotographyI own a Canon Rebel XSi DSLR camera, a 50mm f/1.8 lens and 18-55mmIS lens. I am mostly into street photography. Though I like to venture into landscape, the prohibitive cost of wide angle lens is hurting. Browse through the links in the adjacent menu for more details.
