COMMENTARY:
Format: diary entry in Jeanette Kornfeld's hand.

FOOTNOTES:

¹ Almost certainly Symphony No. 2. Neither No. 1 nor No. 2 had been performed complete in Vienna by this time, but the second movement of No. 2 had been conducted by F. Löwe at a concert in Vienna by the Kaim Orchestra on March 3, 1898 (the complete work was introduced by Mahler on April 9, 1899). S may be responding to sight of the full score, issued by F. Hofmeister (Leipzig) in 1897 (subsequently reissued in a Titelauflage by Weinberger probably in late 1898 or early 1899 by possibly as late as 1903). I am grateful to Dr. Paul Banks for this information.
