FOOTNOTES:

1 Schenker's Syrische Tänze, originally for piano four hands, orchestrated by Arnold Schoenberg at the instigation of Ferruccio Busoni. The dances are No.1 Andante espressivo--Allegro scherzando, D minor; No.2 Allegro con fuoco, C minor; No.3 Allegretto [dolcissimo], G minor; No.4 Allegro molto passionate, D major. They were first performed in this orchestration at an Orchester Abend on November 5, 1903 by the [Berlin] Philharmonic Orchestra in the Beethovensaal, Berlin.
