COMMENTARY: FOOTNOTES: 1 Harmonielehre, published on November 10 (CA 54–55). 2 Baron Alphons von Rothschild, S’s principal patron, who would pay the full publication costs of Harmonielehre ( see entries OJ 1/5, p.27, November 20, 22). 3 Professor Ernst Ludwig (18??–1915), eminent piano teacher at the Vienna Conservatory (1883–1909), and teacher of and mentor to S himself. 4 Kuk: S may have tried to correct the final letter. Perhaps he intended Wilhelm Kux, to whom S dedicated his Ländler für Pianoforte, Op. 10 (Berlin: Simrock, 1899) [suggestion from Prof. Benjamin McKay Ayotte].
