Sehr geehrter Herr Doktor !

Ihrer gefl. Zuschrift vom 13. ds. Mts. haben wir gerne entnommen, daß wir das Manuskript des zweiten Teils Ihres Neuen musikalischen Theorien bis etwa zum 25 ds. Mts. erwarten dürfen. Auf Ihre Frage bezüglich des Zeitpunkts, an welchem dieser zweite Band erscheinen kann, werden wir nach Einsichtnahme in das Manuskript zurückkommen.

Ihre gefl. Bestellung haben wir bestens erledigt indem wir ein Exemplar des ersten Bandes an Frau Dr. Sophie Guttmann in Sereth Bukowina für Ihre Rechnung abgesandt haben.

Dear Doctor,

We are pleased to learn from your est’d letter of the 13th inst2 that we should expect the manuscript of Part II of your New Musical Theories by about the 25th of the month. On your question as to the time by which vol. 2 can appear, we will get back to you after inspecting the manuscript.

We have taken care of your request to the best of our ability, in that we have dispatched a copy of your first volume to Dr. Sophie Guttmann in Sereth, Bokowina, charged to your account.

3 Ernst Rudorff (1840–1916), German pianist, teacher and composer, member of the Brahms circle. S and he corresponded between January 1908 and November 1910. See Federhofer, Nach Tagebüchern, pp.199–210. Rudorff, in thanking S, remarks: “When I put together what you have told me of your plans as a whole with what I have now read in your Harmonielehre, I believe and hope that you are the long-awaited one destined to hurl the burning torch into the Tower of Babel [i.e. Wagner’s world]. “ (OJ 3/37, 3).
