Sehr geehrter Herr Professor !

hochachtungsvoll
ergebenst
[ sign’d: ] Emil Hertzka

Dear Professor,

Many thanks for delivering the second batch of proofs on time.1 The material is going off immediately to the printers so that the additions and changes can be made.

Since2 my officer manageress3 is not in at the moment, searching for the contracts for Niloff [Instrumentations-Tabelle] and the Chromatic Fantasy & Fugue|4 will put her to all the more trouble because I am on the brink of a week-long trip.

I am back at the beginning of next week,5 and shall let you have copies of the contracts concerned immediately after that.

Please kindly excuse the delay. I send my best wishes,

With kind regards,
Yours most truly,
[ sign’d: ] Emil Hertzka

FOOTNOTES:

1 In WSLB 62, June 10, S expressed hope that he would deliver the music and letterpress proofs of the Fugue, so this is perhaps what H is acknowledging.

2 Nachdem: “since, as” (= da, weil) is a South German (and Austrian?) usage that Schenker uses constantly.

3 i.e. Barbara Rothe, who responds in OJ 52/53, July 4, 1910, and other letters.

4 S has evidently requested copies of these two contracts either in a covering note to the second batch of proofs or by word of mouth. The contracts are OC 52/421, June 30, 1908 (Niloff) and OC 52/423, October 17, 1909 (CF&F).

5 Monday is June 27.
