COMMENTARY: FOOTNOTES: 1 This explicit mode of address implies that of the members of the managing board he was the person who managed the business. 2 In 1904, UE issued scores of the F Minor Symphony, Op.12 (UE 1040), Aus Italien, Op.16 (UE 1044), Don Juan, op.20 (UE 1061), Macbeth, Op.23 (UE 1075), Tod und Verklärung, Op.24 (UE 1078), Till Eulenspiegel, Op.28 (UE 1103), Also sprach Zarathustra, Op.30 (UE 1113), and Don Quixote, Op.35 (UE 1132). See Diary OJ 1/5, p.19, September 13, 1906, for an arrangement whereby UE were to supply S with orchestral scores of Bruckner and Mahler free in return for work supplied. 3 Adolf Robitschek, one of the founders of UE, was a partner in the Viennese publishing firm of Rebay & Robitschek, which dates back at least to the 1880s. It is possible that this partner was the signatory to the present letter, in which case he was perhaps in charge of the UE Administration. The swash capital letter of his signature perhaps suggest someone of an older generation. There was also an R. Rebay, a composer whose Löns-Lieder were published by UE c.1917 (UE 5928-5930).
