Typed letter from UE (Adolf Robitschek & unident’d signatory), to Schenker, dated July 23, 1903 [UE letterhead] Professor Heinrich Schenker, Esq Most Honored Sir, We hope that you are in receipt of the fourteen copies of Ornamentik[1] dispatched to you at your request, and take the liberty of inquiring whether you would interested in undertaking the arrangement for piano 4-hands of the Handel Organ Concertos.2 {verso} In the event of your accepting this offer, we ask you to add your esteemed signature to the enclosed publisher’s slip3 and to return it, whereupon we will take the liberty of sending you the comparative material. We also ask you to let us know whether in this instance the packet should be addressed to Vienna or to Payerbach. With kind regards, 1 Publisher’s slip. © Translation Ian D. Bent 2004. |
COMMENTARY: FOOTNOTES: 1 According to the Verlagsdruckbuch for UE812, UE took receipt of 500 copies of Ornamentik on July 24, 1903, so perhaps these fourteen copies were dispatched direct from the printers to S. 2 This inquiry is a follow-up to OC 52/8, July 11: S had previously inquired as to whether the Haydn piano trios might be available for editing in the UE catalogue; UE informed him that most of these had already been published, and promised to keep him in mind for future editing work. "4 ... zu" underlined by Schenker. 3 i.e. a preliminary form of contract. SUMMARY: © Commentary, Footnotes, Summary Ian D. Bent 2005.
