COMMENTARY: FOOTNOTES: 1 The first edition was released in 1903, and the second edition in 1908. 2 The old private Conservatory of Music of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde had become a public institution, the K. K. Akademie für Musik und darstellende Kunst, on January 1, 1909, and Universal Edition had for some months been heavily involved in planning to provide editions and manuals for the new curriculum. 3 No English translation was produced in Schenker's lifetime.
