Handwritten letter from Schenker to Cotta, dated January 8, 1907

Sehr geehrter Herr !

Mit besten Dank die Karte zurück.

In ausgezeichneter Hochachtung

Dear Sir,

Many thanks for kindly forwarding the Lindauer postcard to me.1 Even so, please keep my name completely secret for the time being.2 For there would have to be the highly unusual situation whereby the personality[?] of the person asking were somehow pertinent to the subject itself; but that would require them at least to divulge their own name to you. Thus, for example, any musician would be welcome who wanted to take[?] lessons [from me] and was capable of doing so
on such a basis, and tried to get in touch with me for this purpose, and so on.

I am returning the card with many thanks.

With kind regards,
[ sign’d: ] H. Schenker
