Handwritten letter from Schenker to Cotta, dated September 13, 1908

Wien, 13. 9. 08
17. 9. [ not in Schenker's hand? ]

Sehr geehrter Herr !

I auf meine Rechnung senden.

Mit bestem Dank
zeichne hochachtunsvoll ergeben
[ sign’d: ] H Schenker

17.9. [ not in Schenker's hand? ]

Dear Sir,

In gratefully acknowledging receipt of the money you sent me, I can inform you that I have now at long last finished the manuscript of Counterpoint, and am at present busy entering the counterpoint exercises. It can hardly be more than 8–10 days before I complete this work with the exception of the Introduction.

You will then have to judge for yourselves whether the volume could still be published by Christmas, which would certainly by highly desirable. If the troublesome second edition of an earlier work of mine had not got {verso} in the way and taken up so many months, the printing would in all probability have been concluded long ago. The latter ought to go very smoothly and straightforwardly this time, thanks to the state of the material itself.

Please be so kind as to send a copy of vol. I to the address: Dr. Sophie Guttmann, in Sereth, Bukovina,1 to be charged to my account.

With best wishes and kind regards,
I remain yours truly,
[ sign’d: ] H. Schenker
