Handwritten letter from Schenker to Hertzka (UE), dated June 3, 1910

Sehr geehrter Herr Direktor !

Hochachtung

Dear Director,

I hasten to acknowledge herewith receipt of the proofs, and at the same time to offer my best thanks.1 Whatever still is possible will be done. It is a pity that the printing of the elucidations2 evinces so many errors: either the typesetter had difficulty reading my handwriting, or the pace was too fast for him.

With kind regards,
Yours truly,
[ sign’d: ] H Schenker

FOOTNOTES:

1 This is in response to OC 52/51, June 2, 1910 (which must surely have exasperated S after the careful scheduling of proof-correcting that he had proposed several times in recent months), and the proofs of the Chromatic Fantasy & Fugue delivered by hand. S has taken time to examine the proofs before acknowledging receipt.

2 i.e. the contents of the “Einführung” (Introduction).
