The chapter demonstrated
how we could evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of each assessment
method from a measurement perspective, given an assessment
design or selection context.
Our choice of assessment method should be guided by the assessment
purposes, the targeted population,
and the substantive nature of the construct
to be assessed. The chapter recommended that both developers and users evaluate
the pros and cons of employing one assessment method over another, or of
combining
more than one assessment method, in particular testing situations. Such decisions
would affect the validity,
reliability
and utility
of an assessment and its application. Justification of the assessment method
during assessment design is detailed in later chapters as a part of the process
model for assessment design/selection, validation, and use.
