Designing or Selecting Written Structured-Response Assessment Tools

As teachers’ assessment philosophies, needs, and purposes vary, specific decisions they make while implementing the Process Model to design W-SR assessment tools for classroom use, will also vary. Despite these differences, however, the core set of tasks involved in the assessment design/selection process remain the same (illustrated in Table 7.1). The basic process is invariant across different constructs, assessment methods, users, user paths, and assessment development situations; teachers should follow the same model that assessment developers do in more formal test development settings.
