The Department congratulates Alexandra Scacco (Ph.D. 2009) for receiving the American Political Science Association's Comparative Democratization Section's Best Field Work Prize.  The prize rewards dissertation students who conduct especially innovative and difficult fieldwork.

Scacco's dissertation, "Who Riots: Explaining Individual Participation in Ethnic Violence," entailed working with a team of Nigerian research assistants over the course of six months in the field to conduct forty in-depth interviews with riot organizers and participants, and implementing an original survey of over 800 individuals who chose to (or chose not to) participate in riots in the cities of Kaduna and Jos.

Scacco has recently been appointed Assistant Professor of Politics at New York University.
