IRB Approval
All projects involving human subjects must be approved by Columbia's Institutional Review Board (IRB) prior to receiving funding. Columbia University's Morningside IRB website (http://www.columbia.edu/cu/irb/) contains information about the review process for investigators who conduct research involving human subjects.
  • All new human subjects applications must be submitted through RASCAL (https://www.rascal.columbia.edu/). Contact the RASCAL help line at [email protected] or 212-870-3480 for help with your protocol.
  • Gaining IRB approval is solely the responsibility of the PI.
  • PIs should seek IRB approval before any funding is awarded. No projects may commence without IRB approval.
  • Please submit a copy of your IRB approval to ADR-OSP.
Bio Sketches
Your proposal should contain biographical data on each of the key personnel. This includes: education and training, positions held, awards and honors, publications and funded projects. The publications and projects should be tailored to fit the proposal, highlighting the most relevant publications and research projects.

Resources (Boilerplate)
The Resources section of your grant application asks you to describe the facilities you have available to you. This includes conference rooms, computer equipment and technical staff. It is acceptable to use boilerplate language to describe the facilities at CUSSW. The ADR-OSP can provide you with the text for this section.

RASCAL PropTrak
RASCAL is Columbia University's central proposal tracking system. It is essential that your proposal is entered into this system; without a finalized PropTrak, RA will not send out your proposal. ADR-OSP will enter your proposal into RASCAL. We will ask you to complete a Funding Proposal Data Sheet, which can be found under "Forms" on this site. The form will ask you to provide information about the project's funding agency, budget, personnel and so on. Please do not submit anything directly to a funding agency without informing our office. It is much more difficult to create a PropTrak retroactively and RA will not set up an account for your funds without one.
