The second annual Columbia Music Scholarship Conference will take place on January 28–29, 2005 at Columbia University. The theme of this year's conference is Music and Conflict with keynote speaker Ana María Ochoa.

The conference will open at 8pm on Friday, January 28 with an evening concert by counter)induction, featuring works by James E. Holdman, Nurit Jugend, Juraj Kojs, Alexandre Lunsqui, Richard Pressley, and Johan Tallgren.

Paper sessions will be held on Saturday, January 29 at the following times:
   9–10:30am Session I: Music as Cultural Identity: Diaspora, Race, and Nation
11am–12pm Session II: Formal Ambiguities, Violent Behaviors
           1–2pm Keynote Address
2:30–3:30pm Session III: Transgressive Voices: Women in Patriarchal Societies
      4–5:30pm Session IV: Appropriation, Resistance, and Worship in the Cold War Era
