I can’t set up my UNI for some reason. What should I
do?
Contact CUIT at askcuit@columbia.edu. They are very helpful and will answer all your UNI-related questions.
My housing form won’t submit. What should I do?
Contact the Housing office at housing@columbia.edu.
What are my chances of getting a single room?
Depends on the building you select more than anything else. Also, don’t write “Would like to live with other transfer students” in the Special Requests field, as that will trump your request for a single bed.
When do transfer students register?
Transfer students register in the middle of orientation week. Don’t worry, though…you get to register before all the first-year students. Registration takes place online, through the Student Services website (https://ssol.columbia.edu/).
When do we declare our majors?
For SEAS students—around October of your senior year. For CC students—the end of your Sophomore year.
Can I double-major?
It depends on your department. Most CC departments are easy to double-major in, but some SEAS departmental requirements make it near impossible. You can always pick up a minor or a concentration if you want to mix it up a little.
How expensive is food around campus, and is there a good variety of restaurants in the neighborhood?
On-campus food is on the pricy side, but there are some off-campus alternatives that can be quite affordable (and more delicious). Basically, in New York City food can be as expensive as you want it to be.
Is there a subway stop close to Columbia? How much does the subway cost?
There is a subway stop immediately outside of the main gates of Columbia. It is on the #1subway line, and the stop is called 116th Street-Columbia University. The NYC subways and buses cost $2 per ride, but all transfers are free.
