Orientation
Move-In Dates
Transfer students move in at the same time as first year students. Students are assigned a move-in day based on where they live.
Sunday, August 26th - 8 AM to 1 PM
Students with primary residence in: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming, Puerto Rico, Guam, and countries other than the U.S.
Monday, August 27, 2007 – 7 AM to 1 PM
Students with primary residence in: Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington DC
When you arrive on campus, there will be plenty of volunteers available to help you load your belongings into a moving bin. You will then check in on South Lawn, where you will be given your Columbia ID card, dorm key, and orientation materials. If you are arriving by car, make sure you know how far away your dorm building is, as it might be easier to drive your belongings there, as opposed to pushing them in a moving bin.
NSOP (New Students Orientation Program)
This is a campus-wide weeklong orientation for ALL new students, including incoming first-year students, transfer students, combined plan (3-2) students, and visiting students. The events are usually geared towards the first-year students, since they make up the largest population, so feel free to blow off a few of the less enticing activities and go explore the neighborhood and the city a little more. The first day of orientation is always helpful because your orientation group will be entirely transfer students. Take that opportunity to meet a handful of good people—some NSOP events can be a little dull and it’s nice to at least know a few friendly faces. www.columbia.edu/cu/orientation
CUTA Dinner and Events
During orientation week, CUTA will try to host 1-2 events for transfer students only. This will provide you with another good opportunity to meet some more of your transfer class. Over the Labor Day weekend, CUTA will also host a special dinner for transfer students. We will keep you informed about the details as we finalize them.
