CLOSED BACKLOG PROCESSING

Record Creation Procedures

  1. BACKGROUND:

    Closed backlogs consist of monographs or microfilms that are not eligible for the open backlog and are not Priority 1.

  2. MATERIAL ELIGIBLE FOR CLOSED BACKLOG PROCESSING

    1. Avery material which lacks standard cataloging copy.

    2. Material stored in original catalogers' working backlogs.

    3. Microforms backlogged in OSMC.

  3. PROCESSING PROCEDURES

    Search GC and code appropriate notation codes if appropriate.

    If the item lacks cataloging copy, create a preliminary record.

  4. COPY HOLDINGS RECORD AND PHYSICAL PROCESSING

    1. Avery Monograph Example and Procedures

    3. Original Catalogers' Working Backlogs

      1. Track the item to OSMC with priority, e.g., OSMC3

      2. Write CLIO ID on top of T2 Rider.

      3. File in working backlog by CLIO ID.

  5. MARC HOLDINGS

    For multi-volume sets, or for microform reproductions of sets, create a MARC holdings record according to current procedures. (See CLIO Cataloging Notebook, VOL.152, VOL.160; see CPM651 for standard abbreviations)

  6. STATISTICS

    For Avery only, count as "BACKLOGGED." Do not count on Change-in-Size-of-Collection statistics sheet.
