Q:

Bella Abzug was supposed to be the front runner and then Koch came up from behind and took it.

Clark:

Percy did everything he could behind the scenes to get Rangel and others to support Hilton. He got his nephew who is a district leader to support Hilton.

Q:

What's his nephew's name?

Clark:

Sutton, but I don't--I think it's David Button.

Q:

David?

Clark:

I think so. I'm not sure.

Q:

This footnote question, and I think the answer is probably implicit in what you've already said. But as you were talking about Hilton's independence and everything, I couldn't help but think of the primary campaign for Congress that Bella Abzug waged against Bill Ryan who, I think, was the first reform Democrat, I believe, to go to Congress.

Clark:

That's right.

Q:

Although Bella's positions, at least by the time of the primary, were compatible with the reform Democrats her challenging Ryan rather than saying challenging a conservative Democrat from Staten Island
