came up from behind and took it.
Percy did everything he could behind the scenes to get Rangel
and others to support Hilton. He got his nephew who is a district
leader to support Hilton.

Hilton's independence and everything, I couldn't help but think of
the primary campaign for Congress that Bella Abzug waged against Bill
Ryan who, I think, was the first reform Democrat, I believe, to go to
Although Bella's positions, at least by the time of the primary,
were compatible with the reform Democrats her challenging Ryan rather
than saying challenging a conservative Democrat from Staten Island
