Has Northside got any interrelationships with the tra de unions?

Clark:

Not really. Not really. My husband has had more of a relationship with them, but not in the context of Northside Center. Really, as an individual. I mean, I certainly know the man, and I've met him. Certainly Bayard Rustin I've been closer to. But not really in the sense of contact with the trade unions.

Q:

What's been the contact with Bayard Rustin?

Clark:

Well, Bayard's into everything. You know. He's on my husband's wasn't? board. He was on HARYOU board but he was into the activity. He's into everything.

Q:

Which do you mean, your husband's board?

Clark:

MARC. The MARC board. He was a member of the MARC board. (Metropolitan Applied Research Center) But we had known him for many years.

Q:

Just for the record -- what does the acronym MARC stand for?

Clark:

Metropolitan Applied Research Center.

Q:

Any other black leaders in Harlem that the Center's had any relationship with, or that you have had, in some professional way? Percy Sutton, for example?

Clark:

Oh, he's been a very good friend of the Center. He is a participating friend. He always comes to our ceremonials. In fa ct,
