I don't know whether he thought all of us took LSD and therefore he would be one of the boys--maybe that. You know, he was very specific about it. He said, “Yes, yes, we take LSD. We do it under doctors supervision.”

This was in the experimental phase of it--

When he's out in Phoenix he was doing it.

Did anybody ever understand why he was doing it?

No. No one--you know, somehow, it's not the question you ask. [laughters] I don't know why we didn't--

But it made a big splash inside Time Inc.?

Oh! And then of course it leaked out, and people would say to me, “You mean Luce is taking LSD?” And I'd have to say, “Yes.”
