I see. What about the attempt to get into Realite, the French magazine?
Oh, I wanted to get a toehold into the French publishing business. And the Realite people who were partly owned by Hachette seemed to be interested in us acquiring them, or acquiring the--I don't know, I think the two-thirds that were available. And just as I thought we had the deal done I discovered one day that Hachette had bought the other two-thirds.
That what?
That Hachette had bought the two thirds that we were going to buy.
I see.
Without anybody ever saying anything to anybody.
I think one of the--the one thing that we learned was that our greatest success was Time International, which ultimately made a lot of money, and it was a success because people wanted to read it to know about the U.S., not about ‘what we said about France. The Frenchman wanted to know about the U.S. and Time was the way he learned about the U.S.
